Money Advice Project

Help Women and Children in Birmingham and the West Midlands

WAITS international women's day conference

We are currently running a Money Advice Project which aims to help women across Birmingham receive access to workshops and one to one sessions in a whole range of money and debt issues.

The present Money Advice project is being run by Marcianne Uwimana and has been generously funded by the Bank of Scotland. Previously a volunteer with WAITS, Marcianne has been trained in a whole range of financial skills which she is passing on to others. The project includes one to one sessions and half day workshops for up to 20 individuals. Each session is evaluated and feedback from the workshops has shown that 100% of the women have found the sessions to be of real benefit to them.

Marcia Lewinson, Manager of WAITS comments:

“.. this project has meant that women who have experienced financial abuse can now learn to face their fear of managing their own finances and learn the steps to financial independence. We are thrilled by the huge success of the project which is shown by the positive feedback we have received.”

Jo Hill from Bank of Scotland’s Birmingham office said:

“Bank of Scotland Corporate recognises the importance of re-investing in the communities where we live and work, so we’re delighted to be able to secure a donation like this through the HBOS Foundation.

The work of WAITS makes a real difference to the lives of the women in Birmingham who rely on it, and we hope that our support will enable the charity to help more women and their families in the future.”
