Women's Forever Fund wants better support for charities

Did you know that less than 1.8% of charitable grants go to women’s organisations like WAITS even though demand has been skyrocketing since 2021?
This means that women’s organisations that aid women suffering from domestic abuse, poverty, bad health and economic crises that help by intervening when legal systems fail, face a devastating lack of stability, workforce retention and long term growth. This is not the fault of the organisations themselves, but the result of a shattered funding system.
To present a solution to this problem, the Women’s Resource Centre (based in London) is leading a campaign to ask the government for an initial £50 million fund through the Dormant Assets Scheme (a UK scheme that allows forgotten financial assets to be used for social and environmental costs) that would unlock funding from corporates and philanthropists that would build up a £350 million endowment over six years. This is the Women's Forever Fund's first fund dedicated entirely to providing long-term and sustainable capital to support women’s charities.

WAITS CEO Marcia Lewinson said,
"This represents a once in a generation opportunity to fix the funding system for women’s organisations to create lasting impact, not short term survival. If we invest properly, women’s organisations like WAITS will not only survive, we will transform lives, strengthen communities, and build a fairer society for generations to come."
