Commonwealth Day was celebrated on Monday 11 March 2024, marking the beginning of a week-long series of events and activities happening around the globe – including faith and civic gatherings, debates, school assemblies, flag-raising ceremonies and cultural events.

The theme for Commonwealth Day 2024, and the following Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, is ‘One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Commonwealth’. The theme highlights how the 56 member countries must harness their strengths by building resilience, unlocking potential, leveraging the 'Commonwealth Advantage' and fostering a connected, digital Commonwealth.

As a charity specialising in empowering global majority women, Commonwealth Day offers us a unique occasion to reflect on the diverse tapestry of cultures and backgrounds that enrich our work.

This day serves as a reminder of the unity among women worldwide, transcending borders and boundaries.

Celebrating Commonwealth Day

"Commonwealth Day offers a unique occasion to reflect on the diverse tapestry of cultures and backgrounds that enrich our work."

Within WAITS, we have had the privilege of working alongside women from various cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds. Each woman brings her own unique story, experiences, and challenges, yet collectively, they form a powerful force for change and empowerment.

On this Commonwealth Day, we celebrated the resilience of women who have overcome adversity, the courage of those who continue to speak out against injustice, and the strength of those who stand in solidarity with one another.
