International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrated annually on March 8, is a global moment to recognise the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while continuing to call for action towards gender equality.

As a charity supporting women affected by domestic abuse, WAITS marked IWD 2026 with a strong presence across Birmingham, engaging communities, partners, and stakeholders to raise awareness of our services and the ongoing need for support.

Our activity began on March 5, when WAITS partnered with Howden Group Holdings for a collaborative event at Bank Restaurant. This provided a valuable platform to share insights into our work and explore opportunities for future partnership.

On March 6, we connected directly with the public at an event hosted by Birmingham City Council at New Street Station. Through our information stand, leaflets, and engagement with commuters, we highlighted WAITS’ services. A standout moment included a powerful arts-focused hour celebrating women’s strength, alongside a dynamic flash mob led by WE:ARE.

WAITS continued its outreach on March 10 with a speaking engagement at Barclays, where we explored how corporate partners can support our mission.

That same evening, our ambassador Misbah Raham hosted an inspiring Iftar Networking Event in Birmingham’s Mailbox, featuring a panel discussion, reflections, and a charity spotlight delivered by our Chair Tina Swani.

Finally, on March 17, WAITS participated in a civic event at the Council House, reaffirming Birmingham’s commitment to ending violence against women and girls.

These events collectively strengthened awareness of WAITS’ work and the importance of continued fundraising and community support. If you would like to donate or volunteer, we would love to hear from you.
